Mystery Photo answers: 

  • It is Big Becky, the tunnel boring machine used for the Niagara Tunnel project to drill a hydroelectric tunnel beneath Niagara Falls
  • Named Big Becky in reference to the Sir Adam Beck hydroelectric dams to which it was tunnelling
  • The machine weighs 4000 tonnes
  • It has a 14 meter cutting head
  • It went through 1.6 million cubic meters of rock
  • The tunnel is 10.2 km long
  • The tunnelling started in 2006 and was finished in 2011 with work still being done in the tunnel
